Nature Craft Garden is located at the Norris Farm of Watauga County, North Carolina. Dedicated to growing, crafting with, being inspired by and preserving gardens and woods, Nature Craft Garden is a farm whose main agricultural products are herbs and flowers. Owned and operated by Lisa Norris Clements, the farm is located near Boone, North Carolina.
HISTORY:
The farm is a Century Farm in North Carolina - having been in the same family over 100 years. Lisa's Dad, Guy Norris, worked to get this designation in the 1980s. At that time, Lisa was living in Raleigh, NC and working as a Graphic Designer for a large Fortune 500 company. She was able to help him with the application process by being in the Capital City where the NC Department of Agriculture offices are located. This was in that time before computers and you had to write on actual paper and postal mail or deliver documents and interact with others in person! :)
Guy was a smart, kind man - who sadly didn't live to old age. He developed Parkinsons and died when he was 59. Guy always believed in quality over quantity though, so his life was that. He had an honesty and integrity that many in the community greatly respected. He was proud of his farm and grateful to God for everything. He loved working with animals and the land. Guy, and his Father and Grandfather before him, kept cattle, hunted, foraged and grew many vegetables and crops. Guy knew how to do so many things and was a crafter and builder of many components of the farm. He knew some blacksmithing, how to weld, masonry, wood carving and carpentry. He started his days early and ended them late. He worked both harder and smarter. All the while being kind to everyone, no matter what they looked like, acted like, or what they had. He was a generous and funny Father and Husband.
Lisa worked with her Mother, Pearl, until her more recent passing, to maintain the property and buildings, grow and landscape natural areas, help with the cattle and other aspects of overseeing land use. Pearl was an avid gardener who loved her flowers and vegetable gardens. Lisa continues to work to maintain the integrity of the farm and woods, while adapting to changes in the area and the climate.
CURRENTLY: Lisa started the brand "Nature Craft Garden" in 2021. Working with both cultivated, recycled/up-cycled and wild-crafted materials, Nature Craft Garden offers low impact, bee supportive, pleasantly aromatic and unique products to the public. Lisa believes that nature is inherently creative and can teach us so much. Lisa no longer keeps cattle, but may venture into raising some type of animal (besides her pet rabbit, Celeste) at some point in the future. Lisa sells at some local markets and online via Etsy. You can also contact her to inquire about what's available in flowers, herbs and art! :)
